5-25 - BCS Conference Meet

The boy's and girl's team with the loss of two of its top performers (Michael Small & LiLi Martin) unable to compete due to injuries both teams performed admirably. On the boy's side, the team took 10th out of 15 teams but were only 10 points out of 6th place which would have been easily made up if Michael had been able to compete in the 100 meter dash & Long Jump and team might have moved up even further if Travon Blakely could have competed in the high jump (knee issue). There were, however, a number excellent performances turned in for the day in the Red Division such as: Donovan Cash who took 2nd in the 400 meters with a personal record of 53.83, Sophomore Leo Juarez who tied for 2nd in the pole vault with a vault of 9' 6" setting a new personal record by 1 foot, Sophomore AJ Byrd who took 3rd in the 100 meters with personal record of 11.78, Junior Mubark Hasan who took 5th in the 300 hurdles recording a new personal record of 43.83, and Sophomore Austin Currie who smashed his discus record with a throw of 99' 03" which was good for 5th in the competition.

5-21 - MHSAA Regional

The boy's track team comprised of 2/3 underclassmen performed admirably against very stiff competition on Friday, May 20 at the Regional Championship taking 9th out of 14 teams. In so doing many individual and season long records were broken. Leading the charge for the team were two Senior Captains, Michael Small and Austin Salome. In the sprints Michael Small wound up qualifying for the State Championship with a 2nd place finish in the 100 meter dash with a career P.R. of 11.33. He also earned two additional Regional medals by finishing 5th in the Long Jump and being a part of the 4 x 100 team consisting of Sophomore AJ Byrd, Freshmen Vernard Whitehead, and Freshmen Raekwon Little which took 5th. While Austin Salome set a new career P.R. in the 3200 meet run with a time of 10:28 which was good for a 7th place medal and wound up just missing out on another medal in the 1600 with a season personal record of 4:54. Austin was also part of 4 x 800 relay team consisting of Junior Travon Blakely, Junior Mubark Hasan, and Sophomore Seth Ansel that took 5th. Seth Ansel also turned in a fine performance in the 800 meter run finishing one place out of the medals with a season P.R. of 2:07.

5-16 - Comstock Invitational Division 3&4 Champions


The boy's teams won the Division III/IV Team Championship out of 9 schools that competed in yesterday's Comstock Colt Invitational and finished 2nd overall in the meet losing only to Division II powerhouse Wayland High School. A major reason for the team's success was the dominance of the relay events as all four relay team finished either 1st or 2nd in the meet with 3 out of the 4 teams setting personal records. In addition, the 4 x 100 team comprised of A.J. Byrd, Raekwon Little, Donovan Cash, Michael Small met the State Qualifying Standard. Outstanding individual performances were also turned in by Michael Small 1st in 100m, AJ. Byrd 3rd in both 100 & 200, Donovan Cash 3rd in the 400, Murbark Hasan 3rd 300 hurdles, Austin Salome 3rd 3200, and Vernard Whitehead's 2nd place performance in the high jump.

5-6 - Parchment Relays


Comstock's Boy's & Girl's Team ran competitively in the inaugural Parchment Relays on May 13 which included the following teams: Gull Lake, Vicksburg, Allegan, Delton, Plainwell and host school Parchment. This meet featured many relays which are not typically run during the regular season to include the short and long distance sprint medley, throwers relay, distance medley relay as well as standard relay events. In addition, scoring for the field events were based on adding the top performance of the top 2 athletes from each team.

On the boy's side the top performances were turned in by the Distance Medley Relay team comprised of Travon Blakely, Rodrigo Juarez, Austin Salome, and Seth Ansel which took 2nd place and the 4 x 800 Relay team of Travon Blakely, Seth Ansel, Mubark Hasan, and Austin Salome which took 3rd place. 

5-3 - Comstock Meet

Both the Girl's and Boy's Track & Field teams had outstanding performances in and outside of the oval of Comstock's Track Stadium with Boy's Team finished a strong 2nd. Team scores were as followed:
Boys:
1) Parchment 126 pts.
2) Comstock 115 pts.
3) Brandywine 75 pts.
4) Lawrence 21 pts.
5) Buchanan 8 pts.
The team was lead by Sr. Michael Small in the short sprints who finished 2nd in the 100 with a career P.R. of 11.30, a 2nd place finish by Sr. Donovan Cash with a P.R. of 54.16 in the long sprint (400m), 1st and 2nd place performances from Junior Travon Blakely and Sophomore Seth Ansel in the middle distance event (800m), and two 3rd place performances by Austin Salome in the long distance events 1600 and 3200m while Sophomore Mubark Hasen turned in the top hurdler performance with a 2nd place finish in the 300 IM setting a new P.R. of 45.01 in the process. In the field events, Sophomore Austin Currie was the top thrower finishing 1st in the shot put and 4th in the Discus while in the pole vault a crew of three vaulters including Sophomores Leo Juarez (8' 6") Johnny Warren (8') and Mubark Hasan (8') who were all able to clear the entry height of 8' which marks the first time this season that this has happened and the first in several years for Comstock that we had more than one vaulter clear entry height.

4-22 - Comstock Invitational - 3rd Place

The Boy's Track Team had by far there best meet of the year setting a number of personal records and being in a position to finish 2nd in a field of 9 teams going into the last event. Unfortunately, the Mendon's 4 x 400 won the event and by doing so eked out Comstock's Boy's Team by only 5 point while Quincy which won the event was only another 5 points out. 

The Boy's Team had several first place finishers including Michael Small with a new P.R. in the 100 (11.45), Seth Ansel tying his 800 PR in 2:12, and the 4 x 800 Relay Team consisting of Travon Blakely, Mubark Hasan, Austin Salome, Seth Ansel) setting a new P.R. of 8:55 which bested the field by 8 seconds. In addition, the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 Relay Teams took 2nd and the 4 x 400 Relay took 3rd. Other medalist at the meet included Austin Salome 3rd in 3200, Raekwon Little 4th in the 100, Mubark Hasan 4th in the 300 hurdles and Connor Nolan 4th in 800.

4-15 - Gull Lake Invitational

On Friday, April 15 both the Comstock Girl's and Boy's Track & Field Teams competed at the Gull Lake Invitational. At this meet, thirteen other teams competed including six Class A schools. Yet despite the intensive level of competition, there were several athletes that recorded some very high finishes.  On the boy's side, Travon Blakely tied for 1st in a field of 23 high jumpers with a jump of 6' 4" nearly tying the high jump school record after nearly clearing a couple of attempts at the school record height of 6' 5". Other outstanding performances were turned in by Seth Ansel who finished 5th out of field of 33 runners in the 1600 in time of 4:58 and 7 out of 27 runners in the 800 with a time of 2:12, Raekwon Little in the 100 who ran 8th out of 33 runners and posted a Regional Qualifying Time of 11.76 as well as the 4 x 800 Relay Team consisting of Travon Blakely, Mubark Hasan, Seth Ansel, And Austin Salome which averaged 2:14 a leg. In the boy's field events, Austin Currie shattered his discus record by nearly 15 feet throwing 89' 3".

3-25 - GVSU Indoor Invitational

The boy's and girl's track team had 30 athletes compete on 3.25.16 at the Grand Valley State University Indoor Invitational. In this meet that featured sixteen teams, several of our athletes received medals in their event as well as one of our relay teams did by recording a top 8 finish.

On the boy's side, Donovan Cash a Sr. and Co-Captain finished 7th out of 54 contestants in the 400 with time of 55.45, Michael Small a Sr. and Co-Captain of the team took 2nd out of 61 contestants in the 200m in 19.08 P.R., 2nd out of 37 contestants in the Long Jump with a jump of 19'8" P.R. and tied for 4th out 71 contestants in the 60m dash, AJ Byrd Sophmore finished 8th out of 71 contestants in the 200m with time of 24.86, and the boy's 4 x 600 consisting of Jr. Mubark Hasan,Soph.Seth Ansel Soph., Soph. Connor Nolan S, and Sr. Austin Salome took 2nd out of 20 teams. Connor Nolan and Austin Salome were also recently named Co-Captains.
