As part of No Kid Hungry’s continuing effort to ensure all children in Michigan remain nourished and healthy, Comstock Public Schools has received $5,000 in grant funding to help feed more children during the summer.
“It’s difficult for anyone to learn on an empty stomach,” said Holly Wait, Comstock’s Director of Food Services. “It’s even more difficult for many students during the summer months. This grant money is benefitting our Meet Up & Eat Up summer meal program, specifically at Pavillion Estates, a designated rural community which was hard hit by tornadoes last month. Our summer food program is delivering and serving a hot lunch daily, and we’re able to send home a breakfast for the following day. On Fridays, we’re sending home meals for the weekend. That’s a lot of extra packaging that isn’t required when school is in session. This grant helps cover the costs of packaging for those meals and paying our staff to make it all happen.”
The Meet Up & Eat Up summer program is available at Pavillion Estates and four other locations in Comstock, and is open to all children 18 years or younger, regardless of whether or not they are a student in our district.
