Melanie PickettMelanie Pickett

Class of 1968

Melanie Pickett was a pioneer in women’s athletics. Growing up in an athletic family, (her father Larry Pickett was a Hall of Fame Coach and Athletic Director at Comstock Public Schools) it is no surprise that she was encouraged to participate in athletics. Being in the right place at the right time, Melanie was mentored by Hall of Fame teacher and Coach Pat Ashby. Not only did Melanie establish herself in athletics at Comstock High School, she followed her father’s footsteps and became a top athletic administrator in the State of Michigan. She served as the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrator Association’s President and among her many honors, was recognized as the Athletic Director of the Year in 2006. - Fred Smith
