Welcome to Mrs. Bloom's Classroom!

I grew up in the Traverse City area, enjoying school and the many activities available. I then moved to Kalamazoo in order to study at Kalamazoo College, majoring in Anthropology. Western Michigan University’s Anthropology Department became my next home. However, after two years in the Anthropology program, I realized that I missed teaching! I switched to a secondary teaching certificate program! After earning my certificate, I found a home in Comstock. After several years of teaching, I continued my education, earning a M.A. in Educational Leadership at Western Michigan University.

I love social studies!! I am a self-professed geography and history geek. I look forward to engaging students in the story of history and the explanation of why things happened where they did. I also love talking about geography! The world is an amazing place, and I love exploring. Geography and history work together to tell a wonderful story, the story of us!

In 2019, I was selected as a 2019 Grosvenor Teacher Fellow. As a result of that experience, I incorporated “exploration” into my classroom. I hope to encourage students to explore this amazing planet, both its physical features, and the variety of human cultures.
